South Beach Trail, Tofino, BC
starts from The Wickaninnish Centre

South Beach Trail
Location: On the Wickaninnish Beach Road
The South Beach Trail begins on a path, becomes a boardwalk and end in stairs down to the beach. All-terrain wheelchairs are available at The Wickaninnish Centre. Inquire about the distance you can travel before you reach the stairs - the Wick Centre staff will be able to give you a heads up about what areas you can access via wheelchair.

Both the South Beach Trail and the Wickaninnish Trail begin on the same path. After a short walk along the shoreline there is a signpost and the path splits into two: the second part of the South Beach Trail leads down to the beach and the Wickaninnish Trail leads up and across to the Florencia Bay Trail.

Trail from the Wickaninnish Centre splits into two.

Continue on the South Beach Trail fork: the path becomes boardwalk and then stairs leading down to a very cool sandy beach. Your first glimpse of the beach will be through two sea stacks. It is beautiful and a wonderful place to picnic and watch the waves hit the rocks just off the beach.

The Wickaninnish Trail to Florencia Bay continues up a pathway where you get a good view of the first small beach. It then becomes boardwalk and stairs travelling away from the shoreline through bog-like terrain full of interesting flora. You can also see the old corduroy road that connected Ucluelet and Tofino in the early days of European settlement. Must have been a rough ride! This trail is longer and takes you to Florencia Bay. It is a great trail for a long walk and can easily be done as a round-trip.
