Tofino Maritime Festival, September
Tofino enjoyed the festivities of the Maritime Festival with model boats on display in the Village Green. These model crafts were perfect in every detail and the knowlege of the owners/builders of the models was amazing. I spoke with Doug Allen and he told me about his life spent in the great outdoors of British Columbia on the water fishing and then setting up his own lumber mill. He has now retired and creates beautiful model boats right down to the very fine details. Doug's models will be part of a '100 Years of Gillnetting' display at the Maritime Museum in Vancouver. Thank you to Doug and his wife Rosemary and all the people who showcased their beautiful model boats at the Tofino Maritime Festival.
