2 - 2 1/2 hour Adventure!

Bear Watching in Clayoquot Sound offers unbeatable views of our coastal Black Bears. These quiet excursions are suitable for most guests as we explore protected fjord inlets and bays surrounding Meares Island. From April to September, we schedule departures around the low tides when bears come down to the intertidal zone in search of high protein, energy rich delicacies such as rock crabs, clams and barnacles. Our Black Bears, Ursus americanus vancouveri, are unique to Vancouver island and not found elsewhere. They emerge from dens in March but because of our mild coastal climate, many never hibernate at all. From the comfort of our vessels we get incredible looks at these Black Bears as they potter along the shoreline turning over rocks foraging.

Cleland Island Bird Sanctuary is located a few miles north of Tofino and is one of the most spectacular places on the west coast for viewing sea birds. Some of the species include cormorants, tufted puffins murrelets, oyster catchers and aucklets.
